NZ manage one Oceania badminton title

New Zealand could manage just one title out of the five on offer on the final day of the Oceania Badminton Championships in Invercargill today.

The sole success went to Joe Wu from Waikato, who beat Invercargill's James Eunson 21-16 21-13 in the men's singles final while Australia cleaned up in the four other divisions.

Former Taiwanese Olympian, now Australian coach, Chia Chi Huang won the women's singles over compatriot Erica Pong.

Ross Smith and Glenn Warfe took the men's doubles final, 21-19 21-12 over Waikato's Oliver Leydon-Davis and Auckland's Henry Tam.

Warfe then teamed up with Kate Wilson Smith to beat Tam and Donna Haliday, also in straight games in the mixed doubles final.

The women's doubles was all-Australian as Leanne Choo and Wilson-Smith accounted for second seeds Leisha Cooper and Ann-Louise Slee 22-20 21-11.
