Vietnam qualifies for next round of Thomas Cup
Vietnam's badminton team lost 0-5 to powerhouse Indonesia in their second match of the Thomas Cup Preliminary Asia Zone on Feb. 24 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
With two wins, tournament favourite Indonesia will play Thailand in the next round while Vietnam, the group's runner-up, on Feb. 25 will face India, who topped group C after victories over Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia.
Vietnam's second-round loss was widely predicted, as Indonesia is among the world's top badminton powers.
Even the presence of the world's No 8 player Nguyen Tien Minh, could not help Vietnam pick up a single win against Indonesia, who boasts world No 4 Taufik Hydayat, No 11 Dwi Kuncoro Sony and No 12 Santoso Simon.
Earlier, Minh's teammates Duong Bao Duc and Cao Duc Hieu were, each easily beaten 21-13 by Kido Makis and Chandra Alvent Yulianto.
