All Malaysian Shutllers Move Into Quarterfinals Except Lydia Cheah

NEW DELHI, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- All Malaysian shuttlers advanced into the quarterfinal stage of the Commonwealth Games individual badminton competition, except women singles player Lydia Cheah.

The Malaysian suffered an expected defeat at the hands of Scotland's Susan Egelstaff by 14-21, 19-21 at the Sri Fort Sports Complex Sunday.

However, she partnered Goh Liu Ying to defeat Juliette Chantal Ah-Wan/Alisen Yutrina Therese Camille of Seychelles 21-16, 21-9 in the women's double.

They will meet Imogen Bankier/Emma Mason of Scotland in the next round.

Another women's pair, Chin Ee Hui/Woon Khe Wei defeated Gloria Catherine Najjuka/Daisy Nakalyango of Uganda 21-6, 21-8 to set up a date with Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa Machinmanda of India.

Meanwhile, in another women's singles match, Wong Mew Choo hardly lost any sweat to beat Karen Foo Kune of Mauritius 21-7, 21-3.

She meets Carrisa Turner of Wales in the next round.

In the men's singles, world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei who easily defeated Alex Pang of Canada 21-11, 21-10 will take on Juma Muwowo from Zambia while Muhd Hafiz Hashim defeated David Snider of Canada 21-12, 21-13 to move into the next round and meet K. Karunathilaka of Sri Lanka.

In the mixed doubles, Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying defeated Charles Conran Saunders Pyne/Christine Denise Leyow-Mayne of Jamaica 21-12, 21-14 to set up a date with James Phillips/Caroline Harvey of Wales.

Another mixed doubles pair, Koo Kien Keat/Chin Ee Hui will take on Toby Ng/Grace Gao of Canada in the next round after defeating Kieran Merrilees/Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 21-7, 21-14.
