The saying goes, “practice makes perfect”. However, if no one is perfect, why is there a need for practice? Here in the badminton club, we have the answer to this question: the passion within drives us on. The will to win underlies the reason for hard work.

Since 2004, we had a relentless hold on the Zonal Top Four placing in both the boys’ and girls’ teams. We have been tasting the fruits of labor which require tremendous perseverance and hard work. This year, the ‘C’ division boys and girls, together with the ‘B’ division boys, attained 2nd runner-up during the South Zone Tournament 2010. Six years ago, the ‘C’ boys division only achieved a 3rd runner-up placing. Our recent successes have gained recognition from established brands such as Carlton, Yonex and Li Ning which offer sponsorships for the team’s apparels.

During the June school vacation, the badminton players were hard at work, and the sound of rubber soles rubbing against the wooden flooring in the hall could be heard seven days a week. Not surprisingly, the girls’ team made history at the annual Wee Kim Wee badminton tournament by clinching the 3rd runner-up placing.

To promote holistic development in our team members, we had organized our version of Fear Factor and Amazing Race, Christmas celebration, overseas learning trips and other events. On 21st June 2010, we held their Annual June Retreat which served not only to calm the overworked nerves of the shuttlers and forge stronger ties among the members, but also to bid farewell to the largest ever graduating batch of 12 members. We witnessed the sentiments shared by them and the passing down of legacy to the next torch bearer.

In addition, every member of the team is independent, and equipped with strong physical and mental strength. Yet, at the same time, the members can work closely with one another just like one big family. This team spirit will serve them well in years to come!
