Badminton: Chong Wei, Choong Hann And Mew Choo Enter Semis

JOHOR BAHARU, July 9 (Bernama) -- National ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei qualified for the semifinals of the Yonex-Sunrise Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2010 badminton championships after defeating Indonesian Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in the men's singles quarterfinals at the Johor Baharu City Stadium here Friday.

Second seed Taufik Hidayat from Indonesia defeated fifth seed Hun Yun from Hong Kong 21-13, 9-21, 21-11.

Chong Wei will meet Ajay while Choong Hann will meet Taufik in the semi finals.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Wong Mew Choo (seeded fourth) marched forward to the semifinals of the women's singles after defeating eighth seed Chan Tsz Ka from Hong Kong 21-12, 21-13 in 26 minutes.

Unfortunately, it was a different story for fellow Malaysian Tee Jing Yi (unseeded) who seemed unable to find her rhythm in her match against third seed Yip Pui Yin from Hong Kong. She lost in straight sets of 21-8, 21-14.

Top seed Pi Hongyan from France defeated fifth seed Salakjit Ponsana from Thailand 21-12, 14-21, 21-10 while second seed Zhou Mi from Hong Kong defeated unseeded Misaki Matsutomo from Japan 21-14 21-9.

Hong Yan will play against Pui Yin while Mew Choo will play against Zhou Mi in the semifinal.
