Badminton: Choong Hann, Hafiz To Meet Head On In The Quarter-Finals

JOHOR BAHARU, July 8 (Bernama) -- Fourth seed Wong Choong Hann will have a head on fight with sixth seed fellow national shuttler Muhammad Hafiz Hashim in the Yonex-Sunrise Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2010 men's single quarter-finals to determine who will go to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Choong Hann secured a place to the quarter-finals after he had a 22-24, 21-6, 21-17 upset win against Wei Nan of Hong Kong.

Hafiz moved on after he had a comfortable win of 21-10, 21-11 against Fauzi Adnan of Indonesia.

As expected, top seed Datuk Lee Chong Wei managed to pull off the third round by defeating 11th seed Wong Wing Ki of Hong Kong 21-18, 21-11.

He will meet Andre Kurniawan Tedjono who defeated Malaysian shuttler Chong Wei Feng 21-9 21-9.

Second seed Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia also pulled it off by defeating Malaysian shuttler Tan Chun Seang 23-21 22-20 to meet fifth seed Hong Kong shuttler Hun Yun who defeated another Malaysian Krishnan Yogendran 21-12, 22-24, 21-16.

Seventh seed Chan Yan Kit of Hong Kong, who defeated ninth seed Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark 21-17, 21-12, will meet Ajay Jayram of India who defeated Rasmus Fladberg 21-19, 21-18.
