Badminton: Four Malaysian Pairs March Into Second Round

JAKARTA, June 23 (Bernama) -- World number one pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong led three other Malaysian pairs into the second round of the Indonesian Open men's doubles competition after overcoming their respective opponents at Istora Senayan here Wednesday.

Kien Keat/Boon Heong lived up to their top billing by defeating Indonesia's veteran pair Chandra Wijaya/Luluk Hadiyanto 21-15, 21-15 in convincing style while two young pairs Chow Pak Chuu/Hong Chien Hun and Gan Teik Chai/Tan Bin Shen and veteran pair Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah also scored easy victories.

Pak Chuu/Chien Hun beat Songphon Anugritayawon/Sudket Prapakamol from Thailand 21-14, 21-15, while Teik Chai/Bin Shen disposed New Zealand's Oliver Leidon-Davis/Henry Tam 21-13, 21-10.

Seasoned campaigners Tan Fook/Wan Wah were too good for English pair Chris Adcock/Robert Blair, winning 21-15, 21-14.

In the second round, Pak Chuu/Chien Huat face the winner of Hirokatsu Hashimoto/Noriyasu Hirata from Japan and Ko Sung Hyun/Yoo Yeon Soeng (South Korea) while Teik Chai/Bin Shen are expected to meet the winners of the match between Malaysia's Hoon Thien How/Ong Soon Hock and Muhammad Ahsan/Bona Saptono from Indonesia.

Kien Keat/Boon Heong are scheduled to meet Taiwan pair Liao Min Chun/Wu Chun Wei and Tan Fook/Wan Wah take on South Korean qualifiers Cho Gun Woo/Kwon Yi Gao.
