Badminton: Mew Choo And Jing Ying Enter Quarter-Finals

JOHOR BAHARU, July 8 (Bernama) -- National shuttlers Wong Mew Choo and Tee Jing Yi qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating their opponents in the women's singles of the Yonex-Sunrise Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2010 tournament, here Thursday.

Mew Choo comfortably defeated Hong Kong shuttler Mong Kwan Yi 21-14, 21-11 in 29 minutes while Jing Yi had an upset win of 21-18, 9-21, 21-19 against Macau's shuttler Wang Rong in 39 minutes.

Mew Choo will meet eighth seed Chan Tsz Ka from Hong Kong who had an upset win of 21-19, 9-21, 21-18 against Porntip Buranaprasertsuk from Thailand.

Jing Yi will meet third seed Yip Pui Yin from Hong Kong who defeated Malaysian shuttler Lydia Cheah Li Ya 21-11, 21-19.

Meanwhile, top seed Pi Hongyan from France who had an upset win of 21-17, 16-21, 21-15 against Xing Aiying from Singapore will meet fifth seed Salakjit Ponsana from Thailand, who also had an upset win of 13-21, 21-17, 21-18, against Maria Kristin Yulianti from Indonesia.

Japanese shuttler Misaki Matsutomo who defeated France's Shashina Vignes Waran 21-13, 13-21, 21-15, will meet second seed Zhou Mi from Hong Kong.
