Bao Chun Lai Took the Men's Singles Title in Asia Championship Carrying an Injury

2009 Asia Championship in Korea has just ended. China men singles player Bao Chun Lai beat Chen Long with 2 sets to 1 and won the men singles title.

This is another successful championship after German Open this year. This also the first time a China player became champ in men singles after 8 years.

After Swiss Open, Bao trained less, because of his knee injury. The team also pondered whether to let go for surgery. But if he went for surgical treatment he will miss the Sudirman and World Championship this year.

In March, coach Li Yong Bo says Bao have already registered in Asia Championship but will not go for it. He will be in China for conservative treatment. But one day before the Asia Championship, someone notice that Bao was following the team to go to Korea. And the top seeded Chen Jin was left behind in China.

Bao lead the junior team to Asia Championship. Although Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei, Taufik, Sony, Park Sung-Hwan etc was absent on Asia Championship, it's not easy for Bao to win. Qiu Yan Bo, Chen Long, Kuan Beng Hong, Sasaki Sho are not easy opponents. But Bao still proofed himself and won the title even when he is not fully fit.

10th April, China released players name list for Sudirman Cup. Bao, Lin Dan, Chen Jin and Chen Long are listed in as the men singles. The name lists consist of 24 names, but according to the previous Sudirman Cup experience, China player list will be reduced to 18 players.

And most probably men singles will only 3 players from between Bao, Lin Dan, Chen Long and Chen Jin. Although Bao has defeated Chen Long in the Asia Championship, his knee injury is still not healed.

Junior Chen Long defeated Lee Chong Wei in the previous India Open. And he also reached final stage in Asia Championship. Sudirman Cup would be a valuable experience for him.
