Chong Wei Advances To Quarter-Finals In Korea Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- National shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei advanced to the quarter-finals in men's singles at the Victor Korea Open Badminton Superseries Premier 2011 in Seoul, Thursday.

The world's number one singles player took only 35 minutes to turn the table against South Korea's Park Sung Hwan, beating him 21-14, 21-9.

Chong Wei will meet China's Wang Zhengming in the quarter-finals Friday.

China's Lin Dan also booked his berth in the last eight after defeating Germany's Marc Zwiebler 21-9, 21-12.

The world's number four player will slug it out with Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat in the quarter-finals.

In men's doubles, Malaysia's number one pair, Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong were stretched to three sets before overcoming China's Hong Wei/Shen Ye 25-23, 11-21, 21-19.

Kien Keat and Boon Heong's opponents in the quarter-finals will be their countrymen, Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Ong Soon Hock, who outpaced Indonesia's Alvent Yulianto Chandra/Hendra Aprida Gunawan 21-18, 21-12.

In women's singles, national shuttler Wong Mew Choo bowed out to China's Wang Xin, who beat her 21-16, 21-9.
