1st singles - Rashid Sidek vs Ardy Wiranata (15-11) (10-15) (15-8)


In the beginning of the match the young Rashid Sidek played well under pressure in a sold out stadium as first singles for Malaysia. The patient Rashid pushing Ardy Wiranata at 6 corners of the court and smashes down the line. Having a 14-5 lead in the opening game to give Malaysia a good chance to win the first point of this team event but the match was far from over. Ardy kept on fighting back and forth with superb smashes down the line which caused the young Malaysian a strings of unforced errors.
