Danes nab All England badminton titles

Tina Rasmussen and the pairing of Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen take victory at badminton championships

There was double joy for Denmark as Tina Rasmussen and the men's doubles' pair of Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen claimed victory at the prestigious All England Badminton Championships on Sunday.

Rasmussen had previously won the All England title back in 2008, but lost to Chinese number one Wang Yihan in the final last year.

The duo faced off again in Birmingham's National Indoor Arena and Rasmussen secured a nail-biting victory, winning 21-14, 18-21, 21-19 in an hour.

Rasmussen had come to the tournament unseeded and ranked 10th in the world but felt her victory over Yihan in the Danish Open last October helped give her a psychological boost to take the win this time around.

'This is fantastic. I had this feeling of making it. I knew I could win back the title after I lost it to Wang Yihan last year,' Rasmussen said after her win.

The victory makes Rasmussen the second Danish woman ever to take two All England titles.

Meanwhile, the men's doubles final was a completely Danish affair when Paaske/Rasmussen faced off against their compatriots Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen after the Danes dispatched all the top ranked pairs in previous rounds.

Paaske and Rasmussen triumphed 21-23, 21-19, 26-24 in what was their biggest victory since they were crowned world champions in 2003.
