Hafiz In Asia Badminton Quarter-Finals

NEW DELHI, April 15 (Bernama) -- Muhammad Hafiz Hashim upset fourth seed Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam to enter the Yonex-Sunrise Asia Badminton Championship quarter-finals here on Thursday.

Malaysian hope Hafiz beat Nguyen 21-19, 14-21, 21-15 and will play Thailand's Ponsana Boonsak in the men's singles quarter-final tomorrow.

In the women's singles, Malaysian Julia Wong Pei Xian failed to stop India's in-form Saina Nehwal, also ranked top in the tournament.

Pei Xian's continuous unforced errors cost her the game, losing out in straight sets 21-14, 21-16 to Saina.

The tournament's major upset was in men's singles when top seed Indonesian Taufik Hidayat crashed out to Chinese Taipei's Hsuan Yi Hsueh 22-20, 21-16.
