Hafiz Moves Into Third Round At Asia Badminton Meet

NEW DELHI, April 14 (Bernama) -- Former All-England champion Muhammad Hafiz Hashim advanced to the third round of the Yonex-Sunrise Badminton Asia Championship 2010, here on Wednesday.

Despite a mild stomach upset yesterday, Hafiz played twice within a short span of time and managed to defeat his lightweight opponents in the qualifying rounds.

In the morning men's singles match, Hafiz overcame an early scare from Thailand's Pakkawat Vilailak, who took the first set 19-21, but Hafiz bounced back to beat him 21-9, 21-6 for the win.

Likewise in the second match against South Korea's Choi Ho Jin, Hafiz, seeded 10th in the tournament, had to toil in three sets before tasting victory.

Hafiz, the 2009 India Open runner-up, defeated the South Korean 21-15, 19-21, 21-11 and tomorrow, he would play against Vietnam's Ngyen Tien Minh, ranked fourth in the tournament.
