"I Still Need Misbun," Says Chong Wei

SEPANG, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- Having bagged the third consecutive Super Series Masters Final title in Taipei yesterday, world No. 1 Datuk Lee Chong Wei is hoping that Datuk Misbun Sidek will continue coaching him before the Malaysia Open on Jan 18 to 23.

"I could not do anything as Misbun resigned (from the Badminton Association of Malaysia) just as I was making the last preparations for the championship in Taipei. I definitely need his (Misbun) services and his resignation had disturbed my concentration in Taipei," he said upon his arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, on Monday.

Chong Wei said while in Taipei, he was focusing on his target; the Masters Final title, and hoped that the issue between Misbun and BAM could be resolved soonest possible.

His victory over Danish veteran Peter Gade Christensen in the final awarded him a cheque for US$40,000 (RM122,720), a marvellous curtain raiser for him this year.

Chong Wei said although Misbun had resigned as the national singles coach on Dec 31, 2010, his "sifu" was still closely following the Masters championship in Taipei.

"Misbun had called me (in Taipei) and analysed my play. Despite the distance, I was delighted that he was following my performance," he said.

Asked whether he would leave or remain with BAM, Chong Wei said he had not made any decision on this as he wanted to know the full story of Misbun's resignation.

On his preparations for the Malaysian Open next week, he said he would continue training under another national singles coach, Tey Seu Bock.

"The training starts tomorrow and I want to focus and make the best preparation in facing China's ace Lin Dan in the semi-finals," he said.
