Jung and Lee Win Men's Doubles

Jung Jae-sung and Lee Yong-dae enhanced South Korea's reputation as a doubles powerhouse when they won the men's doubles title at the China Super Series last week.

The powerful duo subdued sixth seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, of Denmark, 17-21, 21-17, 21-13 to emerged champions.

It was an impressive run from the South Korea pair, who had made light work of what appeared to be a tough road to the final.

After beating China's He Hanbin and Sun Junjie 21-9, 21-11 in the first round, they continued their dominant form by sweeping aside Malaysia's Chan Chong Ming and Chew Choon Eng 21-14, 21-9.

Seventh-seeded Malaysians Chong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah awaited them in the quarter-finals but the Koreans had little trouble crafting a 21-13, 21-16 victory.

There was more Malaysian fare for the duo in the semi-finals against former All England champions Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong. But again, the Korea deftly stepped over the challenge with a 21-17, 21-12 win to reach the final.

Boe and Mogensen were handed favour by the USA-Indonesia pairing of Tony Gunawan and Candra Wijaya, who beat the top seeds from China, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng 21-17, 19-21, 21-18.

However, the eighth seeds failed to repeat that feat against the sixth-seeded Danes, who won their semi-final clash 17-21, 21-14, 21-17.

The Danish duo made hard work of their previous matches, apart from a relatively easy 21-10, 21-14 first-round triumph over South Korea's Cho Gun-woo and Yoo Yeong-seong.

Their second round was much tougher against China's Chen Zhiben and Tao Jiaming. Boe and Mogensen had to dig deep to get away with a 21-15, 16-21, 21-17 win.

Their quarter-final against Malaysian fourth seeds Mohd Zakry and Mohd Fairuzizuan also proved to be a hard battle with the Danes eventually winning 20-22, 21-18, 24-22.

For top seeds and favourites Cai and Fu, the tournament was a disappointment because they only managed to win one match.

They received a bye in the first round and then were paired against compatriots Guo Zhengdong and Xu Chen. They won that match 21-19, 21-19 before coming up against giant-killers Gunawan and Wijaya.
