Lin Dan Hurdle Awaits Chong Wei's Path In World Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- The draw for the BWF World Championships 2010 saw Malaysian singles ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei's path once again blocked by his Chinese nemesis and arch-rival Lin Dan of China.

Barring any upsets, Chong Wei, the world number one, is expected to meet Lin Dan in the semi-finals.

Although it was a tough draw for Chong Wei, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary Ng Chin Chai was positive, saying Chong Wei could still make his way to the final.

"Anything can happen (during the championship).. Chong Wei is now in good spirits and confidence high after winning the Taipei Open recently. If he can keep his momentum I'm sure he can make it to final and win the title," he told reporters after the draw at the Park Royal Hotel here Monday.

Chong Wei has only won six of the 20 matches against Lin Dan.

Their latest meeting was during the Thomas Cup finals in May where Lin Dan beat Chong Wei 21-17, 21-8.

Other Malaysians competing in the championships that would be held from Aug 23-29 in Paris, are Hafiz Hashim (men's singles), Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen (men's doubles) and Wong Mew Choo, Lydia Cheah (women's singles).

Meanwhile, Ng said Chong Wei and coach Misbun Sidek would not be joining their team-mates for a special training session prior to the championships at the University of Bath in London.

"Misbun has requested not to go due to personal matters he has to settle here and he is confident he can get better training here," he said.

The Malaysian squad would be leaving for London on Wednesday.
