Lin Dan Pulls Out Of Malaysia Open Due To Injury

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- China's top singles shuttler Lin Dan has withdrawn from the Proton Malaysia Open Badminton Championship Super Series 2011 due to abdominal injury.

This was announced by Chief Umpire Jane Wheatley at a media conference at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, here Friday.

"This morning, when Lin Dan was stretching and warming up, getting ready for the match, he felt pain in his left abdomen due to an old injury.

"After going through a thorough check-up, a doctor from the National Sports Institute (NSI) had issued a letter, a medical advice, advising him to withdraw from the match so as not to aggravate the injury," she told the media.

She said Lin Dan was also advised to undergo physiotherapy treatment and take a break from the game.

Lin Dan's withdrawal would enable his compatriot, Chen Long to advance to the semifinals Saturday.
