Lin and Lee Set for Fireworks in Final as China Clinch Women's Doubles Gold

The seedings held up in the men's singles competition of the Beijing Games as China's top seed Lin Dan and Malaysia's second seed Lee Chong Wei set the stage for a cracking final.

The pair won their semi-finals in contrasting styles on Friday with Lin looking in top form as he disposed of compatriot Chen Jin and Lee working hard to defeat South Korean Lee Hyun-il.

Lin, the world number one whose form has wavered this year, avenged his All England final loss to Chen with a 21-12, 21-18 victory.

Lee suffered a second-game lapse to eliminate the Koreaen 21-18, 13-21, 21-13.

Of all the pre-Games hype, this was the match-up everyone wanted to see. Lee proved earlier this year that he has the ability to win gold when he beat Lin in May's Thomas Cup in Jakarta.

Although Malaysia lost that semi-final 3-1, Lee beat Lin in a competitive match. He needs to recapture that form to beat Lin in front of his home fans on Sunday. This fact was not lost on Lin.

"In the Thomas Cup I lost to Lee and I think he is the best in the men's singles so far." Lee, however, was just thankful to have gotten past Hyun-il.

"I made a few mistakes in the beginning and I knew I could not win, so I just prepared myself for the final game," said Lee Chong-wei about his loss in the second game. "I followed the game plan from the beginning and went all out to take the last game."

Meanwhile, China took the first steps towards their target of a clean sweep of the Olympic golds when the women's doubles pair of Du Jing and Yu Yang won the title.

They beat the South Korean pair of Lee Hyo-jung and Lee Kyung-won 21-15, 21- 13 in the final on Friday to win the gold medal.

China are also in contention in the other four disciplines, with Lin and his compatriots in prime position to confirm Chinese dominance of world badminton.
