Lin Dan Hits Back with Swiss Open Victory

World champion Lin Dan bounced back from his defeat in the final of the All England Championship to win the Swiss Open the following week.

The Chinese world number one, beaten by compatriot Chen Jin in Birmingham, coasted to a 21-13, 21-18 victory over Malaysia's world number two Lee Chong Wei in the final.

There were worried looks in the Chinese camp after the All England tournament but they are feeling more confident now with the Thomas and Uber Cup tournaments on the horizon.

Lin was hampered in Birmingham by a knee injury that almost forced him to pull of the final. However, he recovered sufficiently to turn in some impressive performances in Basel, where he won the title without dropping a game.

There was frustration for Chen, though. Although crowned the new All England champion, he succumbed to an injury and retired in his first-round match in Switzerland.

There was another boost for Lin after he learned that he would not be punished for his part in a near-scuffle at the Korean Open final in January.

Lin accused Korean line judges of bias during the final, which he lost to local player Lee Hyun-il. The Chinese threw his racket at his opponent's coach and got involved in a shoving match. He has since refused to apologise for his actions.

Chinese players dominated the Swiss Open with Lin Dan's girlfriend Xie Xingfang winning the women's singles title. Xie, who fell in the first round in Birmingham, beat compatriot and Olympic champion Zhang Ning 21-18, 21-17.

The mixed doubles was won by China's He Hanbin and Yu Yang, who defeated England's Anthony Clark and Donna Kellog in the final.

South Korea prevented a Chinese clean sweep by winning the men's doubles with Jung Jae-sung and Lee Yong-dae taking the crown. They defeated Indonesia's Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan in the final, 17-21, 21-16, 21-13.

The women's doubles was an All Chinese affair with Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen emerging victorious with a 21-18, 22-24, 21-17 final triumph over Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen.
