Loh, Zulfadhli Will Not Be In Action At ASG Meet

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia are only targetting four gold medals out of the seven on offer for badminton at the Asean School Games (ASG) next week in view of national aces Loh Wei Sheng and Zulfadli Zulkifli not being available to compete in the event.

As a result, badminton coordinator for the ASG, K.Vasudevan said the national badminton contingent was now focusing on the men's individual, women's team, men's and women's doubles to meet the target.

"Loh and Zulfadhli are unable to participate because of injury problems," he told Bernama on Wednesday.

Malaysia's men's singles team is represented by Goh Gian Chin, Soo Teck Chi, Soong Joo Ven and Tan Kang Meng while Nelson Heng, Teo Ee Yi, Calvin Ong and Low Juan Shen will compete in the doubles.

The women's team is made up of Sonia Cheah, Yang Li Lian, Lim Yin Fun and Lim Chiew Sien for the singles and Shevon Lai Jemie, Lai Pei Jing, Chow Mei Kuan and Lee Meng Yean (doubles).

The 10-day meet which is being held for the second time and kicks off on Monday, involves 1,300 athletes and officials from Thailand, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and hosts Malaysia.

The badminton events will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium in Cheras here from July 14-18.
