Malaysia Open Super Series 2012- 2nd round ( 1st round) 16th of January 2012
This morning Vietnam's super star and top player Ngyuen Tien Minh gave everything he got Chinese youngster Wang Zhengming before proceeding to the 2nd round in the Malaysia Open Super Series 2012 with a physically draining match 18-21 21-15 21-15. The young Chinese lad looks dominant in the first set with his "every players dream" physic. Standing at least 185cm tall, huge legs muscle looks like a walk in the park for him in the first set.
In the second set and third set, the experience the Vietnamese star player stayed patient and creating opportunities for the kill which made the Chinese player play cautiously and missing opportunities to kill at the net. With experience and more training this young lad will be the one together with Chen Long to take over Lin Dan's place after he retires.
Lee Chong Wei and Liew Darren is the sole survivors for Malaysia in the Malaysia 0pen 2012 Super Series. Liew Darren will be facing Lee Chong Wei in the 1st round later tonight, which Lee Chong Wei is the clear winner. Veteran Wong Choong Hann ran out gas against Spain's Pablo Abian in a thrilling match 22-24, 18-21. Hafiz Hashim lost in the 1st round as well to Indonesia's upcoming player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in 17-21 21-13 21-11. The 2003 All England Champion, may have to kiss his place in the Thomas Cup squad this year, he played way below par and committed a series of unforced errors.
The match that made the crowd roared was Malaysia's mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng and Goh Liu Ying defeating 5th seeded Taiwanese pair of Hung Ling Chen and Wen Hsing Cheng with a 21-17,12-21, 24-22. German Open champion and newly father Chan Peng Soon step up his game with his brilliant and furious attacks despite his partner Goh Liu Ying couldn't remain steady during tense moments and which caused her to make some easy mistakes. Chan Peng Soon complimented his partner extremely well to win a the match and proceed to the 2nd round of the Malaysia Open for the first time. Certainly they are the pair to look out for in the future.
Another crowd attraction at the Malaysia Open 2012 Super Series is the hitting the shuttle in the square. Who ever got the highest speed, the top 5 would win an IPod from Maybank. Lee Chong Wei smoked Liew Darren, without giving any chances with a 21-8, 21- 11 There's still alot to learn for Liew Darren where he was being outplayed at almost every points last night at Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. Liew Darren needs to picked it up, if he wants to play in the Thomas Cup. Even though it was a one sided match for Chong
Wei, the crowd still gave support with cheers and photo flashes. Before Chong Wei left the court, the crowd were cheering him on for his racket to be thrown to them, but he just gave the shuttlecock. Probably he wants to save his racket for bigger victory before throwing it to the crowd.
Everyone were delighted just to see their super star, Dato Lee Chong Wei. The match that got the whole crowd sitting at the edge of their seat in the evening were Malaysia's women doubles Woon Khe Wei and Vivian upset third seeds Miyuki-Satoko of Japan. Khe Wei and Vivian displayed great fighting spirit and mental strength to sustain in this 1 hour and 20 minutes match, winning this titanic battle at 21-15 19-21 17-21. Both pairs were exhausted but Khe Wei and Vivian are for sure the next stars for Malaysia woman's badminton.
KLRC'S Gan Teik Chai and Tan Bin Shein and their fellow KLRC's Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan of Malaysia were knocked out in the first round yesterday. Both pairs are seeking to revived their badminton careers after leaving the national set up to join KLRC. Gan Teik Chai and Tan Bin Shen played terribly despite having a legendary coach like Razif Sidek who produces great doubles players for Malaysia in the past. Gan and Tan seem to be lost in the game, playing with no game plans that forced them to be over too defensive and caused them to commit unnecessary mistakes and losing to unknown pairs from Germany Michael Fuchs and Oliver Roth 21-19,21-13.
Earlier in the evening, Zakry Latif and Fairuzizuan Tazari created no urgency for reigning Olympic champion Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan who is looking strong to defend their title at the London Olympics 2012. One of the last match of the night is Lin Dan vs. the young talent and World Junior silver medalist from Denmark Viktor Axelsen. The young Danish talent put on fighting display as he would learn a whole lot of different things and great experience playing with one of the greatest player of all times Lin Dan even though you can see Lin Dan is a few level a head of him.
Viktor Axelsen lost at 14-21,13-21 in 31 minutes.
Another match that makes heads turn, would be the match between 2010 World Champion and 5th seeded Chen Jin of China and Hong Kong's Hu Yun. Hu Yun put on a fighting display and shows heart despite his physical condition is no match to Chen Jin, saving five match points in the second set before bowing out 21-16, 29-27 in a 51minutes battle. Hu Yun earned great respect from the crowd with his performance and putting some pressure on Chen Jin at Putra Stadium last night.
