2004 Olympic Champion and 2005 World Champion Taufik Hidayat still got it, with his amazing win over 8th seeded Vietnamese Ngyuen Tien Minh 21-11,21-14. Taufik displayed great court coverage, superb controlling, unbelievable wrist work which left Ngyuen with no answer. If Taufik is able to continue this superb form,the next round's opponent would have a huge problem to deal with.
Earlier in the evening Peter Gade from Denmark fails to make it into quarterfinals losing to Kenichi Tago of Japan in a thrilling match 19-21,21-11,21-16. Malaysia's hope in women singles Tee Jing Yi failed to make it to the quarter finals as her opponent 8th seeded Juliane Schenk of Germany seems to be to strong for her with a convincing 21-18,21-6 win. The young Malaysian player manage to put some pressure on the German but she couldn't maintain the pressure in the second set to force a rubber game.
Lin Dan is out of the Malaysia Open Super Series 2012! loosing to 21-14,15-21,15-21 to Jan O Joegerssen of Denmark. Jan Joegerssen has just recovered from a heart problem which stopped him for playing tournament for about a year bounced back from a set down to win the match. Jan played superbly well with his vicious attacks and great consistency to forced Lin Dan to produced unforced errors which caused Lin Dan the match.
On the other court Lee Chong Wei performed up to his billing as the world number 1 beating Kasuzhi Yamada of Japan with a 21-8,21-18. The Japanese player stepped up his game to put a little resistance in the 2nd set but Chong Wei played smart to rope in the win.Lee Chong Wei will be meeting 2004 Olympic champion and 2005 World Champion Taufik Hidayat in the quarter finals tomorrow.
4th seeded Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong fails to get the better of unseeded Korean pair of Kim Ki Jun and Kim Sa Rang loosing 18-21,21-18,16-21. KKK and TBH is struggling to get back their form where they were regarded as one of the most lethal pair around 4 years ago. KKK and TBH played well to get back from the first set down, they were trailing 6-13 in second set which left the whole stadium without a cheer.
KKK and TBH managed to picked up the pace and played with their hearts out to get back to level and won the second set. Well in the third set, the Koreans dictate the rallies from the beginning and gave no chance to KKK and TBH to control the match with their drives and attacking play. The crowd felt disappointed with the performance of KKK and TBH, some even "booed" them out of the stadium which quite disappointing.
In the mixed doubles department, Malaysia's Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying continue their top form storming through to the quarter finals winning over more established pair in the second round from India Diju V. vs Jwala Gutta in the a thrilling 21-19 21-23 21-19. Chan and Goh got full home crowd support from the beginning of the match which probably played a big part of their win today.
On the other hand, India's Diju and Jwala played well and maintaining the pressure, but Chan Peng Soon played like a man possessed with his flurry of attacking shots and well controlled game.
In woman's department Chin Ee Hui and Wong Pei Tty proceed to quarter finals as well joining team mates Woon Khe Wei and Vivian Hoo who received a walk over from Indonesian pair of Anneke Feinya Agustin annd Nitya Krishinda Maheswari. Ee Hui and Pei Tty played well and picking up their form to qualified for the London Olympics winning Korean pair Kyung Eun Jung and Ha Na Kim.
