Malaysian Contingent Flag-bearer Kien Keat All Fired Up For Asiad

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- National badminton doubles ace Koo Kien Keat said today he is deeply honoured to be picked as the flag-bearer for Malaysia's contingent at the Guongzhou Asian Games and it has fired him up further to do well at the Games.

"A great responsibility had been placed on my shoulders and I will do my utmost in order not to let the team down," he told reporters after receiving the national flag on behalf of the national contingent from Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Chik at Parliament House here Wednesday.

He added that his success in winning three gold at the recent Delhi Commonwealth Games had also put him in a good footing to produce a good performance in Guongzhou.

At today's function, Koo was also rewarded RM95,000 under the National Sports Council incentive scheme for his feats in Delhi.

On a separate matter, Koo said he disagreed with the Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) new ruling to limit national shuttlers competitions and requiring them to return as champions in the meets they competed.

Yesterday, BAM's high performance director Datuk James Selvaraj had announced the matter which is aimed at preventing "competition fatigue" as the national shuttlers were taking part in too many tournaments.
