Misbun, Rashid Expected To Resume Duties By Tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- National coaches Datuk Misbun Sidek and his younger brother Rashid Sidek are expected to resume their duties after being discharged from their quarantine.

National Sports Institute (ISN) Director-General Datuk Dr Ramlan Abdul Aziz said the condition of the two coaches would be monitored by medical officers before being allowed to join the national shuttlers who are preparing for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals which starts on Sunday.

"Though Misbun and Rashid have recovered, we do not want to take anything lightly. We will continue to monitor their progress," he told reporters after attending a campaign to collect one million signatures to show support to the National badminton team, here Thursday.

Among those who signed today were the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) patron Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor who is also the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, BAM President Datuk Nazdmi Salleh and National shuttlers.

Last week, Rashid, his wife and daughter were admitted to a private hospital after they were certified as Influenza A(H1N1) positive while Misbun was on house quarantined as a precautionary measure when his two children were down with high fever.

Dr Ramlan said throughout the tournament, the Health Ministry would set up a booth at the Putra Stadium to screen the temperature of the public who came in.

"Hand sanitizers and face masks would also be made available free," he said.
