No Pressure For Choon Hann In Facing Sony Dwi Kuncoro

JAKARTA, June 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysian men's singles shuttler Wong Choon Hann will be fielded against the host's favourite, Sony Dwi Kuncoro in the quarterfinals of the Indonesian Open Badminton Championships Friday.

He advanced to the quarterfinals after beating South Korean Shon Wan Ho in straight sets 21-18 and 21-17 Thursday night.

Choon Hann said he had frequently lost when meeting Sony Dwi Kuncoro, such as in the Malaysia Open 2009.

Dwi Kuncoro currently is ranked eighth in the world while Choon Hann is ranked 15th.

"He is strong generally, he has no major weakness. I will just try," he said when met after the game.

For Choon Hann, his achievement tonight had exceeded his target and as such he will continue to give his best in the subsequent stages.

"I adopted a good strategy in controlling my pace. Actually, I anticipated he would have played better. I was surprised by the results," he said.

Sony Dwi Kuncoro, who cleared his hurdle by beating Dicky Palyama from the Netherlands in straight games 21-14 21-17, said he took all opponents seriously.

In men's doubles, Malaysian pair Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah were beaten 21-13 21-10 by South Korea's Cho Gun Woo/ Kwon Yi Goo in merely 22 minutes for the quarter-final berth.

Besides Choon Hann, Datuk Lee Chong Wei and doubles pair Koo Kien Keat/ Tan Boon Heong qualified for the quarter-finals.
