Badminton: Choon Hann Advances To Second Round

JAKARTA, June 23 (Bernama) -- National singles shuttler Wong Choon Hann advanced to the second round after defeating Indonesia's junior player Yunus Alamsyah at the Indonesian Open Badminton tournament here Wednesday night.

Wong clawed back into the game after losing the first game to outstretch Alamsyah 20-22, 21-19, 21-17 in one hour and 14 minutes.

"Alamsyah played a good attacking game in the first game and collected points time and again.

"But I had the better of the exchanges in the second and the rubber games by outpacing him as he ran out of stamina," said Wong after the match.

Wong said as Alamsyah was physically stronger than him, he had to attack when the time was right.

Wong, 33, will face South Korea's Shon Wan Ho in the second round Thursday.

Malaysia's doubles Hoon Thien How/Ong Soon Hock failed to book a berth in the quarter-finals when they lost to Indonesia's Mohammad Ahsan/Bona Saptono 21-14, 23-25, 21-15 in one hour 49 minutes Wednesday night.
