Taufik Hidayat Arena To Offer Free Training For Children

JAKARTA, June 30 (Bernama) -- Indonesian children who show talent for badminton will have the opportunity to train for free at the Taufik Hidayat Arena which is currently under construction Ciracas, East Jakarta and scheduled to be completed by end 2011.

The arena, an initiative of Indonesian badminton star Taufik Hidayat, will be opened to children between seven and 12 years.

"Children with badminton talent from anywhere in Indonesia will be given the opportunity to train at this arena for free. A selection process will be instituted to unearth the talents," Taufik said after laying the foundation stone for the arena here Wednesday.

The arena, sized 6,600 metre square, will have eight badminton courts, a seating gallery, hostel, gym, medical and physiotherapy facilities and also a futsal court.

Taufik, 29, who was the Olympic gold medallist at the Athens Games in 2005 and is currently ranked fifth in the world, added that he hoped the arena would provide a steady supply of badminton aces for Indonesia.
