Taufik Wants BWF To Investigate Lin Dan's Sudden Withdrawal

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- Indonesia's number one badminton player , Taufik Hidayat wants the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to initiate an investigation into Lin Dan's sudden withdrawal from the ongoing Malaysian Open.

"I notice Lin Dan has withdrawn from competing three times especially when his opponents are his teammates. Today, this has happened again.

"I do not want something like this to affect the sporting spirit. This is not fair to the other players," he said when met by reporters after his quarter-final match in the championship at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil near here.

He added that a last-minute injury also did not make sense as the Chinese ace had confirmed participation in next week's Korean Open.

According to the chief judge of the competition, Jane Wheatley of Australia, Lin Dan withdrew because of an injury in his left abdomen and was advised by doctors to undergo physiotherapy and rest.

Earlier, Taufik, 29, the Athens Olympics men's single gold medallist, had easily despatched off Kenichi Tago of Japan in straight sets of 21-15 21-15 and will meet compatriot Simon Santoso, who had defeated another Indonesian player Alamsyah Yunus 20-22 21-10 21-18, in the semis.
