Thomas Cup, Uber Cup Squads Get All-Clear From H1N1
KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) -- The National Sports Institute (NSI) has confirmed that all 40 players, coaches and other support officers in the Malaysian Thomas Cup and Uber Cup squads are free from influenza A (H1N1) infection.
Its director-general, Datuk Dr Ramlan Aziz said the squad received all-clear from a second test conducted jointly by the NSI and the Federal Territory Health Department during a training stint at the Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara this morning.
"Despite the all-clear scan, the NSI and the FT Health Department will continue to monitor the squad to avoid any risk of infection," he said when contacted by Bernama on Monday.
He said a medical team would also be stationed at a hotel where foreign players were putting up to check on their health condition.
The Chinese badminton squad is scheduled to arrive tomorrow while others on Friday.
Malaysia's preparation for the coveted trophies is affected when national singles coach Rashid Sidek and his five-year-old daughter were confirmed H1N1 positive on Saturday.
Yesterday Rashid's wife and their 13-month-old child were also quarantined at a hospital after they were confirmed H1N1 positive.
Ramlan said Malaysians should not worry about coming to the Putra Stadium to support the national squads as the infection was under control but advised them to take precautionary measures.
