KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The top seed in the Proton Malaysian Open badminton championship Wang Xin of China has sounded a warning to her opponents that she will "crush" anyone who stands in her way in defending the women's singles title, including her compatriots.

"It is not going to be easy from here on as my rivals are also up to the task. However, I aim to defend the title," Wan Xin, who is ranked world number three, told reporters when met after her quarter-final match at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil near here Friday.

Last year, she won the championship by default after Bae Youn Joo of South Korea pulled out of the final because of injury when the tie stood at 19-21, 21-7, 14-6.

On Friday, she defeated fifth seed and world number eight Juliane Schenk of Germany in 21-17 22-20 in 36 minutes in the quarter-final.

She will meet third seed Wang Yihan also of China in the semi-final on Saturday.

The other semi-final match is also an all-Chinese affair between Wang Shixian and Jiang Yanjiao.
