Wong Mew Choo has high expectations in Sudirman Cup
16th April, according to the name list of Sudirman Cup, Malaysia Wong Mew Choo will be the main player in women singles. And she'll be going with her boyfriend Lee Chong Wei to try their best to fight into the semi finals.
Sudirman Cup will be held in next month, Guang Zhou. 2 years ago, Wong Mew Choo defeated all the players in her path and won the China Open women singles title.
She defeated 4 China players and French Hongyan Pi and won first the women singles for Malaysia in over 30 years. And this is also only the second time that this competition was won by a non China citizen.
Wong has been resting for 3 months due to her knee and elbow injury and she's back now. But Wong Pei Xian has become Malaysia top women singles player. Wong Mew Choo's Badminton World Federation rank dropped below Wong Pei Xian. She's now in rank 15. And she has high expectations to squeeze into the top 10 after her come back.
Wong Mew Choo: "I've been resting too much for my injuries and I don't know whether it'll be back but I'll be more careful." Also she is glad that she felt good on the previous 2 tournament. She said: "I didn't play well in India Open, but I feel great in Asia Championship last week." In Asia Championship Wong was defeated by China's Wang Lin in the quarter finals.
Wong describe that the Malaysian team can be considered balance. Women doubles (Wong Pei Tty / Tan Eey Hui) has the ability to win too. Although she is not too sure who will be the first women singles, but she says she'll do her best. But she also said Malaysian team needs a lot support from men players too.
This would be the 4th time Wong participates in this event. She has a high expectation in the 2009 Sudirman Cup.
