World Badminton: Chong Wei Falls, Kien Keat-boon Heong Advance Into Semis

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27s (Bernama) -- Badminton world number one men's singles player Malaysia's Datuk Lee Chong Wei failed in his mission to capture the World Championship title when he lost to Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in the quarter-final at the Pierre de Coubertin Stadium in Paris Friday night.

Chong Wei, who lost the first set, however, rose up in the second to force a rubber. Taufik, however, prevailed to take the match in 21-15, 11-21, 21-12.

The nation's hopes now lies on the shoulders of men's doubles pair Koo Kean Keat/Tan Boon Heong who booked their ticket to the last four after downing South Korean pair Korea, Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Boe in the quarter-final.

The world number one pair had a tough fight against the Koreans before prevailing in 23-25, 21-13, 21-14.
